Cavendish Venues, London’s leading conference and meeting venues, is continuing to plant a tree for every booking received.
In early 2019, in association with the Country Landowners Association, we planted an initial 300 trees in Dorset, all native varieties, predominantly Ash, Birch, Oak, Alder, Hawthorne, Holly, Field Maple, a selection of Willows, Field Cherry, Blackthorne, etc. Using the Treeconomics tree calculator, these trees are now beginning to capture significant amounts of carbon. See below forthe carbon capture profile of a Rowan tree.
Every year since we have continued to plant trees, this year we are going to plant a further 610, giving a cumulative total of 2601. The average tree in the UK absorbs 25kg of CO2 pa, which equates to 65kg of CO2 pa, or 0.65 metric tons. There is a caveat. As you can see from the attached pictures, our trees are relatively immature; they are most, likely not yet trapping this quantity of CO2.
We are not there yet; we are on a journey, since 2000, we have worked to transparently reduce our environmental impacts cumulatively every year. Be it measuring the travel miles in our supply chainto the market-leading intelligent air conditioning system we have installed the Minster Building. A series of sensors track the movement of delegates; thisinformation is then used to activate AC where it is needed in real-time. Rather than the standard system, which blankets the area with hot or cold air to a setpoint (a thermostat), taking no account of the needs/usage of the space.
